Axxe Synthesizer 1.3.3
Nick Copeland
The is an emulation of the ARP Axxesynthesiser, single oscillator, noise, mixer, filter and envelopegenerator fully emulated in software with modulation. The app hasan integrated step sequencer and supports pressure sensitive touchscreens, X/Y accelerometer for pitch and mod wheel, multitouch andzooming interface facilities, output recording including toRingtones. The original was a monophonic instrument however the emulatorcan operate as a duophonic or even polyphonic synth via multitouchwhen it is enabled. The interface has options for fat-finger,analogue filters and rich oscillators however these will consumeextra CPU cycles. The interface also has a full piano keyboardsetting.Interface zooming can be done either with the trackball(Nexus/HTC have them) or enable multitouch via the menu then tapthe screen with two fingers at the same time - this will zoom theinterface in/out. If you tap with two fingers but keep them heldyou can move the screen around. This kind of helps out with thedense graphics.Patches are saved on the SD card along with factory sounds, there is an export and import option to exchange patches. The emulator will, per default, attempt to run with a set ofoptions that will give reasonable quality and the lowest possiblelatency/lag. The quality of the audio can be tuned with the menuoptions however the lowest possible latency for pretty much allAndroid devices is currently 42ms, on my HTC Desire it is 70ms. Ifyou understand what this means then the value might seem quite highbut the app is still a lot of fun.Tested on HTC Desire/2.2, Emulator hires and lowres. The Axxe isone of a family of emulators.Twitter @bristolaudio
Mini Synthesizer 1.3.3
Nick Copeland
The is an emulation of a Moog synthesiser, three oscillators, noise, mixer, filter and two envelope generatorsfully emulated in software with modulation from third oscillatorand/or Noise/S&H. With the addition of a step sequencer to playriffs and tweak the sounds, then record the outputs to Ringtones ifyou want. The app supports pressure sensitive touch screens, X/Yaccelerometer for pitch and mod wheel, multitouch and zoominginterface facilities. The original was a monophonic instrumenthowever the emulator can operate as a duophonic or even polyphonicsynth via multitouch when it is enabled. The interface has optionsfor fat-finger, analogue filters and rich oscillators however thesewill consume extra CPU cycles. The interface also has a full pianokeyboard setting. So this is not Moog and it isn't a MiniMoog, but it does fit inyour pocket and your budget.Interface zooming can be done either with the trackball(Nexus/HTC have them) or enable multitouch via the menu then tapthe screen with two fingers at the same time - this will zoom theinterface in/out. Bristol PolySynth 1.3.3
Nick Copeland
This emulates a 80s classic analogue polysynth, the emulator can be mono, dual or 4 voice polyphony withmultitouch. It has single oscillator, noise, lfo, mixer, filter anda pair of envelope generators. The app supports pressure sensitivetouch screens, X/Y accelerometer for pitch and mod wheel, multitouch and zooming interface facilities. The interface hasoptions for fat-finger, analogue filters and rich oscillatorshowever these will consume extra CPU cycles. The interface also hasa full piano keyboard setting. There is an emulator 'Unison' switch which will play both voiceson a single note to pad out the sound. The synth has an integrated step sequencer and output recording, including to Ringtones. The same author has an Augur-52 which is the same engine with astereo flanger on the output stage.Interface zooming can be done either with the trackball(Nexus/HTC have them) or enable multitouch via the menu then tapthe screen with two fingers at the same time - this will zoom theinterface in/out. Maxi Synth 1.3.3
Nick Copeland
The is an emulation of a classic polyphonicsynthesiser, effectively multiple Mini's in a single unit, threeoscillators, noise, mixer, filter and two envelope generators fullyemulated in software with modulation from third oscillator and/orNoise/S&H. With the addition of a step sequencer to play riffsand tweak the sounds. This version includes WAV output recording, including toRingtones, Alerts and Notifications on your phone. It also has upto 4 note polyphony where CPU speeds supports it.The app supports pressure sensitive touch screens, X/Yaccelerometer for pitch and mod wheel, multitouch and zoominginterface facilities. The original was a polyphonic instrumenthowever the emulator can operate as a polyphonic (duophonic) synthvia multitouch when it is enabled. The interface has options forfat-finger, analogue filters and rich oscillators however thesewill consume extra CPU cycles. The interface also has a full pianokeyboard setting. So this is not Moog, but it does fit in your pocket and yourbudget.Interface zooming can be done either with the trackball(Nexus/HTC have them) or enable multitouch via the menu then tapthe screen with two fingers at the same time - this will zoom theinterface in/out. ARP 2600 Synth 1.3.2
Nick Copeland
Bristol version of the famous ARP-2600 "BlueMeanie" semi-modular synthesizer with 3 Oscillator, filter, 2Envelopes, noise, ring-mod, electro-switch, signal processing, FXand fully re-routable using patch cables. It works on all my handsets however the load may be pushing thelimits. A tablet version of this with modified high res graphicswill follow. You have been warned: this is a little over-the-topfor a phone but seriously good fun.Integrated sequencing is included for major filter tweaking, output can be recorded to SDcard and to Ringtones, etc.The app supports X/Y accelerometer for pitch and mod, multitouchand zooming interface facilities. The interface has optionsanalogue style filters and rich oscillators however these willconsume extra CPU cycles. The interface has a floating pianokeyboard under the zoom setting.Interface zooming can be done either with the trackball(Nexus/HTC have them) or enable multitouch via the menu then tapthe screen with two fingers at the same time - this will zoom theinterface in/out. There is also a floating 'zoom' button in thecorner since gestures are awkward with active interfaces.Patches are saved on the SD card along with factory sounds, there is an export and import option to exchange patches. The emulator will, per default, attempt to run with a set ofoptions that will give reasonable quality and the lowest possiblelatency/lag. BME Synthesizer 1.3.2
Nick Copeland
The is an emulation of an esoteric Germansynthknown as the BME 700, very few in existence and using aunique dualfilter design, one tracking the envelope and oneresonating at afixed frequency. The envelopes are alsointeresting, there are twoA/R or A/S/R that can be mixed to createADSR and other ingeniouscombinations. The app has a step sequencer which can drive some riffs outofthese unique oscillators and filters, it supports outputrecordingincluding to Ringtones, pressure sensitive touch screens,X/Yaccelerometer for pitch and mod wheel, multitouch andzoominginterface facilities.
